DESCRIPTION
Pair of trays historicist; Spain, XX century.
Silver 925.
Measurements: 58 x 71 x 1 cm.
Weight: 2.990 g.
This pair of historicist trays, made in Spain during the 20th century, clearly reflects the persistence of decorative models inspired by the past, especially in the baroque tradition. Both pieces present an oval composition framed by wide borders richly ornamented with scrolls, cartouches and vegetal elements, executed with a meticulous relief that provides dynamism and depth.
In the center, figurative scenes of historical or military character are developed, starring horsemen and groups of soldiers, treated with a strong narrative sense. The modeling, of remarkable detail, combines relief planes with softly shaded backgrounds, generating a contrast that emphasizes the main figures. This type of iconography refers to an imaginary of historical exaltation highly appreciated in the decorative arts of the time. From the technical point of view, the trays show a careful execution in the chisel work, with a precise definition of volumes, textures and contours. The ensemble stands out for its stylistic coherence and the quality of its workmanship, making it a representative example of the historicist taste in 20th century Spanish silverware, where the evocation of the past becomes a vehicle for decorative refinement.
