DESCRIPTION
Set of three salt shakers. PUIFORCAT. France, first half of the 20th century.
Silver.
Bearing the maker’s hallmark.
In good overall condition, with patina, minor marks, superficial scratches, and slight deformations consistent with its age and use.
Measurements: 4 x 6.5 x 4.5 cm, each.
Set of three salt shakers with a sinuous profile and bulbous body, decorated in relief with branches, leaves, and small fruits that run asymmetrically across the surface. The wavy edges and the fluidity of the plant motifs reflect the Art Nouveau style still present in French silverwork from the early decades of the 20th century.
Puiforcat, a silversmithing firm founded in Paris in the 19th century, achieved particular prestige for the quality of its work in silver and silver-plated metal. The visible hallmark corresponds to the firm’s historic mark: a penknife flanked by the initials of Émile Puiforcat.
