The Waterman Preface Rosetta Stone is a special edition fountain pen launched in 1999, produced exclusively for the Spanish market. This commemorative piece is inspired by the famous Rosetta Stone, discovered in 1799, and represents a tribute to the history of writing and translation between cultures.
It is based on the Waterman Preface model, with a metal body and cap, coated with a triple layer of lacquer. The middle layer has been laser-engraved to reproduce fragments of the original text on the stone - in hieroglyphic, demotic and classical Greek - and then coated with a transparent top layer to protect the design.
The cap includes an engraving with the silhouette of the stone and the inscription "1799". The body features the Egyptian cartouche of Pharaoh Ptolemy. The cap band is engraved "WATERMAN FRANCE", and next to the clip is the unit number, as this is a numbered limited edition, although the total number of copies produced was not publicly specified.
