Sculptural pendulum clock, representing an angel or putto next to a clock whose dial is transformed into its tambourine, which is ringing with a mallet. At the feet of the angel rest two white birds symbolizing love, a score, a harp and a bow with arrows. The draperies and the composition manage to confer dynamism and vivacity to the scene. The clock sits on a porcelain rocaille base with gilded ornaments with the "vermicule" motif. The dial is enameled in white, with Roman numerals in black.
Charles Baury (Paris, 1827-1879) was a sculptor who began as a pupil of Rude to become a model maker in the manufacture Gille Jeune (1837-1868). After the death of Gille Jeune (1868), Baury and Désiré Vion acquired the company in rue Paradis-Poissonnèrie. In 1875 they moved production to Choisey-le-roi. Their production was of high quality, specializing in large-scale figures in polychrome biscuit (unglazed porcelain). Vion continued the same type of production after Baury's death, just two years later, in 1877. He won a gold medal in 1878 and 1883. He declared bankruptcy in 1889.
