BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Garrison. France, Second Empire, ca.1850.
Clock and candlesticks in mercury gilt bronze, details blued in black.
Base in white marble.
Measurements: 38 x 32 x 17.5 cm (clock); 52 cm (candelabra height).
Garrison of fireplace or tabletop composed of a clock and two gilded bronze candlesticks, with putti as figurative motifs in round bulk, historicist inspiration. The dial, in blued bronze, has Roman numerals and is bordered by festoons of vegetable bouquets on which play two little lovers or cupids with graceful plump bodies. The sculptures and the vegetation are made of mercury gilded bronze. The candelabra, also in gilded bronze, are in the form of splendid bouquets of flowers. The fine embossed work on the lampshades stands out. Two putti support the bouquets. The clock rests on a white marble base that visually dialogues with the bronzes.
