DESCRIPTION
Napoleon III table clock, ca.1840-1850.
Gilded bronze.
With key.
Measurements: 45 x 30 x 9 cm.
Clock of careful workmanship, presided over by the figure of a beata elegantly dressed, hugging a cross. The figure, with curly hair and mantle that falls on the shoulders, shows the refinement and the detailing typical of the decorative sculpture of the Second Empire. Below the figure is a circular sphere, enameled in white, with Roman numerals and a border of floral garlands in relief. The base or plinth is ornamented with a chiseled vegetal frieze and topped by a skirt trimmed at the bottom, flanked by carefully executed scrolls.
