The design stands out for its ornate ornamentation, with curvilinear motifs and baroque details, typical of the historicist aesthetic that combined neoclassical elements with baroque and rococo influences, very much in vogue during the reign of Napoleon III. Above the clock, a female bust with a crown of flowers adds an artistic and humanized touch, reflecting the trend of integrating sculptures into utilitarian objects to enhance their aesthetic value. It is a decorative and functional piece that reflects the eclectic taste and opulence characteristic of the French Second Empire (1852-1870). This clock not only fulfilled the function of measuring time, but was also a status symbol, designed to decorate salons and reception areas of the French gentry and aristocracy.
