DESCRIPTION
Table clock with trim; France, late 19th century
Bronze.
Measurements: 73 x 50 x 25 cm (clock); 84 cm (height of candelabra).
This set consists of a 19th-century French historicist-style table clock with decorative elements. The lot comprises a large central clock flanked by a pair of matching candelabra made of blued bronze with mercury-gilded appliqués. The main piece stands out for the full-relief sculpture at the top, depicting a female figure inspired by classical mythology, seated next to ancient weapons such as a shield and a helmet, following the style of the French sculptor Louis Alfred Habert (1824–1893). The body of the clock resembles a classical piece of furniture or pedestal with rich moldings and reliefs in gilded bronze, while the decorative candelabra feature multiple lights with intertwined arms adorned with rich floral ornamentation and finials crowned by classicist busts.
