DESCRIPTION
Grandfather clock. William Gourdain, London, England, 18th century.
Lacquered and painted wood.
Original machinery.
Measurements: 247 x 43 x 26 cm.
High case clock, decorated with scenes inspired by Chinese works showing the typical idealized landscapes of oriental influence, topped by a classicist architectural element at the top. The dial, metal, is framed by classicist-inspired figures and has Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, frames another smaller dial with Arabic numerals; at the top of it, and highlighted with vegetable scrolls in relief, is the name and location of the firm responsible for the clock: William Gourdain, master watchmaker with workshop in the English capital and not too much work preserved.
