The outstanding watchmaker Joseph Windmills created with his son Thomas exceptional timepieces between 1671 and 1737. His worth was recognized in 1699 when he was elected the youngest member of the Guardians of the Honourable Company of Watchmakers. He was active on committees alongside key figures such as Thomas Tompion, whom he preceded as Master of the Company in 1702, and Charles Gretton, who held that position in 1700. An early testament to his talent is on display in the British Museum, while another of his remarkable creations can be admired at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
