(frame).Walter Bonner Gash was born in Lincoln in 1869, and was the youngest of four brothers. Early in his life, the family moved to Nottingham and it was there that he was raised and educated. Although art was not encouraged in his home, records show that his talent developed early. After leaving school, she seems to have worked on the design side in a lace factory. However, the urge to pursue a career in art was so strong that she decided to return to her birthplace and become a student at the Lincoln School of Art. The reward of several prizes and medals while there is proof of her success: in due course, she was recommended to continue her studies at the Antwerp School of Fine Arts and did so in the years 1893 and 1894.
