"Cristal", the most celebrated of Louis Roederer's house wines was born in 1876 to satisfy the discerning taste of Tsar Alexander II. The Emperor asked Louis Roederer to reserve for him each year the best cuvée of the House, which he particularly appreciated. To accentuate its uniqueness, this exceptional champagne will be bottled in a flat-bottomed glass bottle. From then on, it will bear the name of this precious material that exalts its transparency and light.

Founded in 1776 as Dubois Père & Fils, the Louis Roederer champagne cellar is located in the city of Reims, and already in the 19th century was appointed supplier of the Russian imperial house by Tsar Nicholas II. One of its most prestigious champagnes is Cristal, created in 1876 by Louis Roederer precisely to meet the tsar's demand. Cristal is produced only in the best years, when the chardonnay (40%) and pinot noir (60%) grapes have reached perfect maturity. It is aged for six years in the estate's cellars, and finally rests for a further eight months after disgorgement.
