Pintia is the winery in Toro of the Álvarez family, owners of Vega Sicilia, in which they only make one wine, Pintia, with which they have managed to be a reference of quality and elegance in the Toro area. Its proximity to the Duero River results in a complex clay soil. The vineyard is divided into several plots established in an area of 96 hectares, at an altitude of 700 meters. The soils are covered with sand that facilitates water infiltration. Some plots are planted on fairly deep soils with very rocky surfaces. The continental climate is extreme, with hot, arid summers followed by very cold winters. These conditions favor an exceptional state of health of the grapes and a great taste quality of the berries. Like all Vega Sicilia projects, the gestation of Pintia has been very slow, starting with winemaking experiments in 1997 and ending with the first valid production in 2001. It has a total of 96 hectares of vineyards, most of them in San Román de la Hornija. Half of these are between twenty-five and forty-five years old, and the rest have been planted in recent years, although all are of the Toro red variety.
