La Mission Haut-Brion is a deep, elegant and complex Bordeaux red, with rich aromas of ripe fruit, flowers and minerals, silky tannins and long bottle life. It is a collector's and after-dinner wine for special occasions or to cellar and enjoy over time.
The origins of Château La Mission Haut-Brion date back to the 17th century. Located in Talence, south of Bordeaux, it has been owned by Domaine Clarence Dillon since 1953.
In 1964 Madame de Lestonnac bequeathed the property to a congregation founded by St. Vincent de Paul. The fathers worked the vineyard until the arrival of the Chiapella family in the 19th century. Between 1919 and 1983 La Mission was under the management of the Woltners family, who greatly improved the quality of the vineyard and modernized the winery. In fact, during the Woltners' tenure La Mission delivered some of its best vintages, surpassing even its neighboring (and sister) winery Haut Brion. Since 1983 the Dillon family (owners of Haut Brion) has been in charge of carrying on the same philosophy and policy as their predecessors. The 20-hectare vineyard occupies a gravel terrace known for its high quality.
