This genre scene depicts a stroll along a river, where several figures are enjoying a moment of leisure in a bourgeois setting. At the top of the composition, two women are conversing; one of them is sheltering under a parasol, while, in the background, a street vendor offers oranges to passersby. The presence of other figures scattered along the riverbank lends dynamism and depth to the scene.
From a stylistic perspective, the work shows affinities with Post-Impressionism, evident in the artist’s personal interpretation of the landscape, the importance given to color, and the pursuit of an atmospheric impression that transcends purely realistic depiction. The scene combines a genre-based observation of everyday life with a pictorial sensibility centered on light, atmosphere, and the vibrancy of daily life.
