One of the leading figures of Catalan Informalism, Argimón worked in painting, sculpture, and printmaking. He entered the art world in 1952, when he began working in his grandfather’s printmaking studio. In 1956, he moved to Paris to further his training, and returned to the French capital in 1965, this time on a scholarship from the French government. He held his first solo exhibition in 1961 in Lausanne and, again on a scholarship, studied at the Institute of International Education in New York in 1968. He furthered his training as a printmaker at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at The Pratt Center in New York. He also taught at the Escola de La Lonja in Barcelona. In 2002, the Lina Davidov Gallery in Paris dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him. Starting from an initial expressionist style, his work gradually became more informal, placing great expressive emphasis on materials, until he developed a mature style within informal expressionism. His work can be found in museums, institutions, and private collections throughout Europe and the United States, including the MACBA in Barcelona, the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, Eureka College in Illinois (U.S.), the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in Kassel (Germany), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, and the Rigaud in Perpignan (France).
