Created in 2001, this painting belongs to the A.L.C. series, developed by Miguel Ángel Campano during a period of renewed chromatic intensity and gestural freedom. Following the more austere explorations of the 1990s, characterized by a predominance of black and white, the artist returned to an abstraction of vibrant colors, in dialogue with the work of José Guerrero, a key figure in his artistic trajectory. The significance of this series is reflected in its presence in collections such as that of the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation, which holds *A.L.C. 6*, also created in 2001. In this composition, broad vertical brushstrokes of green, yellow, and dark tones overlap a background of light hues and transparencies, creating an intense contrast between material density and lightness. The energy of the brushstroke, the overlapping planes, and the chromatic tension reveal a painting in which color and the very act of painting take center stage.
Miguel Ángel Campano was one of the leading figures of the Spanish pictorial renewal of the 1980s. Trained in Madrid and Valencia, he developed a style of abstraction characterized by great expressive vitality, influenced both by Abstract Expressionism and by his study of classical masters such as Poussin, Delacroix, and Cézanne. In 1996, he received the National Prize for the Visual Arts, and in 1999, the Reina Sofía Museum dedicated a major retrospective to him at the Palacio de Velázquez in Madrid. His work is included in collections such as those of the Reina Sofía Museum, the Bank of Spain, the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
