A painter, printmaker, and bibliophile, he was a student of Francesc Labarta at the Escola de la Lonja in Barcelona. As a painter, he focused primarily on landscapes (especially of old Barcelona and the Montseny region), working in a naturalistic style that was true to life, meticulous, and characterized by fine brushwork. He held major solo and group exhibitions in Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, Munich, and London, among other European cities. Notable among his awards are the prize from the Travelling Exhibition in New York (1926)—an exhibition that brought him international recognition—and the gold medal from the “Barcelona as Seen by Its Artists” competition (1931). He exhibited regularly at the Parés Gallery and was a member of the group Los Evolucionistas until 1923. He also contributed to many of the bibliophile editions published by Montaner y Simón, a prominent publishing house with which the artist had family ties, always using etching, generally in color. His work is represented in the MACBA collection.
