Terracotta, ceramics, stone, and other materials.
A collection of small sculptures, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figurines, heads, sculptural fragments, and various archaeological and ornamental objects.
Various cultures and periods.
Comes with a display case.
Display case measurements: 105 x 42 x 27 cm.
Provenance: Family bequest from Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. An archaeological collection assembled beginning in the 1950s by successive generations of the family through acquisitions at European galleries and auction houses.
This unique collection brings together a varied selection of small sculptural pieces and objects of archaeological significance, reflecting the artistic and symbolic diversity of ancient civilizations. Of particular note are the figurines and fragments stylistically linked to various cultures of pre-Columbian America, whose appeal lies both in their expressive forms and in the richness of their depictions of humans and animals.
Notable among the pieces are small full-body figures, terracotta-molded heads, female figures, figures with elaborate headdresses, masks, and ceramic fragments. Some display characteristics typical of Mesoamerican art, while others reflect sculptural and pottery traditions from the Andean region. The collection is rounded out by objects of various types and possible origins, which enrich its typological and aesthetic diversity.
Beyond the individual interest of its components, the collection possesses the charm of the old cabinets of curiosities, in which material artifacts from different civilizations coexisted.
