An Egyptian terracotta figure depicting the god Bes, a protective deity associated with the domestic sphere. He is shown facing forward, with a small body, short, bent legs, and arms resting on his thighs. The head, which is disproportionately large, features large eyes, a broad nose, and a full beard, the strands of which are defined by incisions. The figure rests on a small rectangular base and retains traces of pigmentation in reddish and ochre tones.
Bes was one of the most popular protective deities of ancient Egypt, particularly associated with the home, motherhood, childbirth, and childhood. His iconography—characterized by dwarfism, pronounced facial features, and frontal depiction—differs from the usual conventions of Egyptian art. Her image was widely depicted on amulets, small figurines, and household objects, which were believed to have apotropaic properties, intended to ward off evil influences and protect their owners.
