DESCRIPTION
Based on designs by GABRIELLA CRESPI (Saronno, Italy, 1922 – Milan, Italy, 2017).
Decorative container with lid, c. 1970.
Rattan and metal.
In very good overall condition, with slight signs of wear and a patina consistent with its age.
Measurements: 60 x 46 cm.
Large cylindrical container with a lid made of rattan, crafted using successive horizontal bands and vertical reinforcements. The domed lid features a spherical finial and metal details, providing hallmarks of contrast to the natural character of the rattan. A large-scale piece with a striking sculptural presence, reminiscent of the decorative style developed by Gabriella Crespi during the 1970s.
Gabriella Crespi was a prominent 20th-century Italian architect and designer. Trained at the Politecnico di Milano, she developed a body of work beginning in the 1950s that straddled the fields of design, sculpture, and the decorative arts, characterized by the combination of organic and geometric forms with materials such as metal, brass, wood, and synthetic materials.
In the 1960s, she collaborated with Maison Dior, and during the 1970s, she achieved international recognition for her furniture, objects, and lighting fixtures with a distinctly sculptural character.
