Brutalism brought to the furniture of the 1960s and 1970s an interest in the expressive power of materials, rough textures, and visible structures. In its most sculptural forms, handcrafted metal took center stage through irregular surfaces and finishes that retain the traces of their creation. This bookcase embodies this aesthetic through its iron uprights, whose jagged and rough profiles lend it a striking visual presence. The combination with brass and the transparency of the glass shelves creates hallmarks of solidity and lightness, resulting in a piece of furniture with an architectural character and a unique sculptural appeal.
