DESCRIPTION
GIUSEPPE TERRAGNI (Italy, 1904–1943) for BD Ediciones, Barcelona.
“Novocomum” coffee table.
Burl wood.
Limited edition of 80 produced by BD Barcelona.
Measurements: 60 cm (height) and 90 cm (large diameter).
The table up for auction follows the “Novocomum” model, created between 1929 and 1930 by Terragni as part of the furnishings for the headquarters of the Federazione degli Agricoltori, located in the building of the same name in Como, which he himself designed. It is a piece of furniture with simple volumes, an example of Rationalism based on the understated combination of straight and curved planes.
Giuseppe Terragni was one of the key figures of Italian Rationalism, whose architectural work also influenced furniture design. Trained at the Polytechnic University of Milan, he developed a design language based on structural clarity, pure geometry, and functionality.
