DESCRIPTION
Pair of armchairs; based on designs by GUGLIELMO ULRICH, Italy, mid-20th century.
Upholstered in violet fabric.
In good condition, with new upholstery.
Measurements: 102 x 86 x 86 cm (x2); 44 cm (x2) (seat height).
Pair of armchairs upholstered in violet fabric, with high, slightly wraparound backs, curved arms, and light-colored piping that outlines their contours. The compact, generously padded silhouette emphasizes comfort without sacrificing decorative elegance, while the intense violet color adds a contemporary touch to the ensemble.
Its design draws on the aesthetic of Guglielmo Ulrich (1904–1977), a leading figure in 20th-century Italian design, whose furniture is distinguished by its attention to proportions, the richness of its materials, and meticulous craftsmanship. Especially in his chairs from the 1930s, Ulrich explored enveloping forms in which the backrest and armrests blend into a continuous silhouette, placing comfort at the center. These armchairs evoke that quest for balance between volume, functionality, and sophistication, characteristic of mid-century Italian furniture.
Guglielmo Ulrich (1904–1977) was an Italian architect and designer who trained at the Accademia di Brera in Milan. A leading figure in 20th-century interior design, he was renowned for his furniture featuring refined lines and fine materials, which graced private residences and high-end interior design projects.
