DESCRIPTION
Vase; BAROVIER & TOSO; Italy, mid-20th century.
Rostrato glass.
Good vintage condition, one spike at the top is chipped.
Measurements: 25 x 15 cm (diameter).
Rostrato glass vase made of slightly yellowish blown glass, with a conical body and a surface adorned with pointed protrusions characteristic of the Rostrato technique. This elaborate treatment creates a sculptural effect and an attractive interplay with light, highlighting the transparency and material richness of Murano glass. The piece draws on the research conducted by Ercole Barovier (1889–1974), one of the key figures in the renewal of Italian artistic glass. Beginning in the 1930s, his experiments with textures, reliefs, and optical effects expanded the expressive possibilities of the Murano tradition, transforming the surface of the glass into an essential element of the composition.
Barovier & Toso, a historic Venetian firm founded in 1936 following the merger of the Barovier and Toso families, achieved international recognition for combining traditional artisanal techniques with constant aesthetic innovation. Under the artistic direction of Ercole Barovier, the firm produced some of the most significant works of 20th-century Italian glass, which are now prized by collectors and experts alike.
