Primarily a sculptor, though he has also worked in painting, Evaristo Bellotti began to make a name for himself in the early 1980s through group exhibitions held in Madrid. His work is characterized by his interest in the classical and the Mediterranean, as well as in concepts such as fragment, time, body, and vestige. Thus, his artistic language seeks to uncover the points where classical forms intersect with ancestral traditions—a model of syncretism and Romanization. In recent years, Bellotti has held solo exhibitions at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, the Barjola Museum in Gijón, the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art, the Cádiz Provincial Council, the Bach Quattre Gallery in Barcelona, and the Reina Sofía National Art Museum, in addition to participating in prominent group exhibitions in Spain, Italy, and Mexico. He has public monuments in various Spanish cities and is currently represented in the MNCA Reina Sofía, the Spanish Academy in Rome, the Álava and Moreno Galván Museums of Contemporary Art, the city councils of Madrid, Jerez de la Frontera, and Calatorao, the Provincial Councils of Murcia, Almería, and Cádiz, the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art, the Postal and Telegraph Museum in Madrid, and the El Monte Collection in Seville, among other public and private institutions.
