The series Regions of Spain, created between 2003 and 2004, brings together four compositions dedicated to different locations across Spain: Toledo, Albarracín, Segovia, and La Mancha. Through watercolor and colored pencil, Luis Marín G. explores the landscape and identity of these places from a perspective that combines chromatic sensitivity with an attention to the unique character of each setting. The selection of these settings allows viewers to explore different facets of Spain’s landscape and architectural heritage; beyond its scenic dimension, the project holds documentary and cultural significance.
Luis Marín G. was a Spanish artist trained at the School of Arts and Crafts and the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid, where he began a career focused on drawing and painting. From an early age, he received various awards, including Third Prize at the Madrid City Council Group Exhibition (1952), First Prize in Drawing from the Spanish Air Force (1954), and Second Prize in Drawing from the Spanish Air Force (1955). Throughout his career, he exhibited extensively, participating in group and solo exhibitions in Spain and abroad. Notable among his exhibitions were those held in Salamanca (1958), Paris (1963), the Hotel Meliá Princesa in Madrid (1972), the Carmen Andrade Gallery in Madrid (1988), Art Chicago (1991), and the Sofitel Plaza de España Hotel in Madrid (2002). In addition to his work as a painter, Luis Marín G. had an extensive career in the audiovisual and performing arts fields.
His artistic output remained rooted in abstraction, and he participated in exhibitions such as the 7th Abstract Art Salon of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors (AEPE) in 2024, as part of a posthumous tribute to a career marked by painting, drawing, and visual experimentation.
