This life-size anatomical model is associated with the renowned Maison Deyrolle of Paris, one of the leading European manufacturers of scientific and educational materials in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Its design is inspired by the famous *Écorché* by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741–1828), created as a preparatory anatomical study for his sculpture of Saint John the Baptist, commissioned for the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Rome.

The model depicts a flayed male figure with his right arm raised. The polychrome painting distinguishes the muscle groups, tendons, and blood vessels, while the head and torso open to reveal the internal structures. Notable features include the detachable arms and removable organs, including the brain, lungs, and heart. The combination of papier-mâché and plaster allows for a meticulous reproduction of human anatomy, combining scientific precision with educational purpose.

Maison Deyrolle was founded in Paris in 1831 and underwent significant expansion under the direction of Émile Deyrolle, who promoted the production of anatomical, zoological, and botanical models intended for educational institutions. Located at 46 rue du Bac, it became a leading institution in scientific education. Historic examples of its work are preserved in institutions such as the Whipple Museum at the University of Cambridge and the Muséum de Toulouse.
