BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

AURELIO TENO TENO (Córdoba, 1927–2013).
Untitled.
Silver, quartz, and semi-precious stones on a marble base.
Measurements: 45 x 25 x 15 cm.
This sculpture depicts a silver bird, with stylized forms and an expressive treatment, whose silhouette is enhanced by the presence of a quartz stone situated behind its wings. The combination of silver’s metallic coolness with the transparency and natural irregularities of the mineral creates an appealing hallmark of contrast between the precision of the craftsmanship and the organic power of the materials. The work reflects the creative universe of Aurelio Teno, an artist from Córdoba whose body of work is characterized by experimentation with metals, stones, and materials of varying textures, as well as by the reinterpretation of animal motifs and natural forms. His sculptural language, situated between figuration and abstraction, endows his creations with a distinct personality, in which the material plays an essential role in shaping the piece.
A Spanish sculptor, painter, and goldsmith, Aurelio Teno developed a unique artistic language based on his training with the sculptor Amadeo Ruiz Olmos, his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts in Córdoba, and his subsequent stay in Paris, where he came into contact with avant-garde artistic movements. He achieved international recognition for his sculptural jewelry, which won the Diamond International Award in 1966, and for his monumental representations of Don Quixote. In 1976, he won the competition to create a sculpture dedicated to Cervantes’s character, intended for the grounds of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., thereby solidifying his international reputation. His work is represented in institutions such as the Córdoba Museum of Fine Arts, which houses sculptures like *Don Quixote, or the Triumph of Unreason* and *On the Prowl*, as well as in private collections and public sculpture gardens.
