Henri Godet was a prominent French sculptor and medalist fully committed to the Art Nouveau movement and fin-de-siècle Symbolism. A student of the master Mathurin Moreau, he exhibited regularly at the Paris Salons beginning in 1883. He became famous primarily for his “flower women” (femmes-fleurs), delicate female busts cast in bronze and marble whose figures emerge from carved botanical compositions such as poppies, lilies, or vines. He also sculpted complex mythological compositions and allegories inspired by classical paintings.
