BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

ENGELHARDT Old Navigator Flieger Automatic, ref. EG57-2939.
An aviation-inspired wristwatch featuring a 47 mm circular stainless steel case with satin-finished and polished surfaces, a smooth bezel, and sturdy lugs. Oversized crown with a tapered, fluted profile, inspired by the traditional onion-shaped crowns found on pilot’s watches.
Black dial with large Arabic numerals and luminescent hour markers, central “Flieger”-style hands with luminescent material, minute track around the perimeter, and a distinctive triangular marker at 12 o’clock, flanked by two dots. Two sub-dials: small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, with a red sector in the low-reserve zone. Date window at 6 o’clock. Mineral crystal.
Self-winding mechanical movement with an Engelhardt-signed oscillating weight. Screw-down stainless steel case back with a transparent window that partially reveals the movement. Rated water resistance of 10 ATM (100 meters), according to the manufacturer’s inscription.
Original black leather strap in aviator style, with white stitching, metal rivets, and a buckle clasp.
It works.
Measurements: 47 mm (case diameter, excluding crown).

Inspired by the large observation watches used by pilots during the 20th century, this Engelhardt Old Navigator revives the aesthetic codes of German aviation watchmaking, characterized by maximum legibility, robust cases, and an eminently functional design. Its design evokes the historic Beobachtungsuhren, or observer’s watches, recognizable by their large black dials, luminescent numerals, triangular marker at 12 o’clock, and oversized crowns—originally designed to facilitate handling while wearing gloves.

When the description of a watch states “it works,” it means the watch is functioning. Since collector’s watches typically have delicate and complex mechanisms, the buyer is responsible for any general servicing, inspection, battery replacement, adjustment, or repair that may be necessary. We do not guarantee the perfect functioning of any watch. All photographs of our watches are original and were taken by our photographers; in other words, we do not use stock photography, which is why the photographs are considered part of the catalog entry.
