DESCRIPTION
RENÉ FUMERON (France, 1921-2004).
Tapestry "Cosmos", ca. 1960.
Woven wool.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 91 x 141 cm.
Tapestry designed by René Fumeron, French artist linked to the renovation of the Aubusson tapestry in the second half of the 20th century. The work reflects Fumeron's interest in transferring to textiles the resources of modern painting: spatial fragmentation, contrast of textures and balance between geometry and movement. The title "Cosmos" refers to a dynamic and expansive vision, in which forms seem to gravitate around a luminous center, generating a composition of great visual intensity.
René Fumeron was a French artist and designer who specialized in tapestry cartoons. Since the 1940s he collaborated with Aubusson workshops, including Pinton and Robert Four, developing a very extensive production. He carried out numerous public and private commissions, and was involved in major projects such as the decoration of the France cruise liner.
