BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Set of two jars and a teapot; Medieval period.
Terracotta.
They have damage caused by the passage of time.
Measurements: 17 cm (height); 9 x 19 x 12 cm (teapot); 9 x 16 cm (bowl).

This ceramic set, from the medieval period, is composed of two jars and a teapot, each with formal and technical characteristics that reflect their daily functionality and craftsmanship.
The jar on the left, made of reddish earthenware, has a polished surface decorated with geometric incisions in horizontal stripes, suggesting aesthetic care as well as practical use. The center piece, a rounded-bodied teapot with spout and side handle, shows evidence of having been used extensively, as indicated by cracks and heat blackening. On the right, the second jar, with an elongated neck and narrower base, has a more stylized form and was probably used for storing or pouring liquids.
These pieces illustrate aspects of everyday life in medieval communities, combining utility with simple decorative elements and revealing the ceramic techniques of the time.

The pieces come from the collection of Georges Savès (1908-1985), a French numismatist and collector with a deep vocation for archaeological study. Heir to a family tradition of collecting, he devoted himself fully to historical and numismatic research since the 1950s, especially on Toulouse and Gallic coins. Throughout his life, he assembled an eclectic collection of archaeological, ethnographic and artistic pieces, enriched in 1966 with the acquisition of part of the Roger Bédiat collection. Author of specialized studies, his legacy remains a reference in the academic and patrimonial fields.
