DESCRIPTION
Vessel. Chupícuaro, Guanajuato, Mexico, 400 B.C. - A.D. 100.
Terracotta.
Provenance: Dutch private collection, 1970's.
Conservation: intact.
Measurements: 18 cm long.
Globular body vessel supported on three conical supports, with upper mouth and small appendix modeled in the shape of an animal head, which acts as a decorative and functional element. It presents decoration painted in dark tones on a light background, with repetitive curvilinear motifs and a horizontal band in red that surrounds the piece.
This piece is characteristic of Chupícuaro ceramics, where sculptural forms and geometric decoration are combined, reflecting the symbolic and aesthetic richness of this pre-classic culture of western Mexico.
