Marble.

Good state of preservation.
Measurements: 16,7x 19,5 x 19,5 cm; weight 11 kg.
Spanish Islamic marble capital, of compact format and great ornamental sobriety. The piece presents a clear architectural structure, with a smooth upper abacus and a body decorated with stylized vegetal forms, among which the lateral volutes and the central lance-shaped motif, arranged in a vertical axis, stand out.
Its decoration responds to the process of abstraction characteristic of Islamic art, in which the repertoires of classical origin - capitals, leaves, scrolls and vegetal motifs - are reinterpreted through a more synthetic, rhythmic and ornamental language. The carving, with smooth but firm lines, gives the whole a great formal elegance, reinforced by the quality of the marble and the purity of its volumes.
This type of capital would be part of a prestigious architectural context, where the structural function was combined with a clear decorative value. The piece retains a balanced and monumental presence despite its contained dimensions, with a very clean reading of the main elements.
Due to its material, provenance and good state of preservation, it is an attractive example of Islamic architectural sculpture in marble, especially interesting for collectors due to its decorative strength, its formal sobriety and its ability to evoke the refinement of Hispano-Muslim art.
