Hellenistic mask characterized by its markedly grotesque expression, with very arched eyebrows, pierced eyes, prominent nose and open mouth. During the Hellenistic period, the theater had a wide diffusion and its iconographic types were frequently incorporated into small terracotta pieces of votive, decorative or funerary character. These masks evoked the scenic universe and the taste of the time for intense gestures, caricature and the representation of extreme emotions.

Despite its superficial wear, the piece retains a remarkable visual strength and an energetic modeling. Due to its theatrical iconography, age and good general condition, it is an interesting example of Hellenistic choroplasty.
