DESCRIPTION
Figure. Magna Grecia, 4th - 3rd century BC.
Terracotta.
Provenance: Private collection, Paris, France.
State of conservation: good state of conservation, without restorations.
Measurements: 15,7 cm high.
Terracotta female figure from Magna Grecia, dated between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. The piece presents a frontal and stylized composition, with the body wrapped in a mantle of soft folds and a serene attitude, typical of the small votive and devotional figures produced in the suritallic workshops of the Hellenistic period.
The modeling, simple but elegant, preserves the elongated silhouette and the vertical rhythm of the body, with traces of reddish tonality visible on the surface. This type of terracotta is related to contexts of cult, offering or funerary accompaniment, where the female figure could acquire a symbolic value linked to protection, fertility or the idealized representation of the devotee.
