DESCRIPTION
Lucerne. Rome, 1st century AD.
Terracotta.
Condition: good condition, with superficial wear, deposits and partial loss of engobe typical of its age.
Measurements: 10.3 cm high.
Roman terracotta lantern datable to the 1st century A.D., with circular body, frontal spout and elevated rear handle. The central disk preserves a figurative decoration in relief, today partially veiled by wear, framed by a circular molding and an outer border of small radial incisions.
These oil lamps accompanied Roman daily life, illuminating interiors, ritual spaces and funerary contexts. Their value lies in the union between practical function and decorative repertoire, showing how even the most common objects could incorporate images and details intended to enrich their visual presence.
