Mahes was a lion-headed deity associated with war, solar power, and protection. Considered the son of Ra and, according to local traditions, of lioness-shaped goddesses such as Bastet or Sekhmet, he embodied the sun’s aggressive power and the ability to defend order against its enemies.
The figure has a human body and a lion’s head, with the mane rendered through lateral volumes. It stands upright on a small base, in a frontal and compact composition suited to its function as an amulet or votive image. Its small size suggests that it may have been intended for personal protection or placed as an offering in a sanctuary.
