Chinese jardinière in which it is appreciated by the type of ornamentation and its rich polychrome the style of the Pink Family of Canton. The concave walls are completely decorated with gnarled branches of almond blossoms and bouquets of other plant species. The pink tones acquire a high quality iridescence. A variety of greens and amber tones stand out against the yellow background. A geometric fretwork (Greek fretwork type) outlines the perimeter at the top.
This ornamental style is characterized by the predominance of light and very luminous tones. It is a style typical of ceramics exported to Europe, developed mainly during the second half of the 19th century. It is a very ornamental style, usually decorated with figurative scenes of courtly type or inspired by nature. Thanks to the discovery of white glaze, Chinese potters expanded their palette, achieving new tonal ranges that allowed them to conform more closely to European tastes. In addition, as we see here, these pieces are often enriched with golden details, very much to Western taste. These pieces were made in Jingdezhen, the most important center of pottery and porcelain production in China, from where they were brought undecorated to Canton, an important port where they were decorated with glazes and sold to foreign customers.
