BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Right hand of a bodhisattva in thought. XVI/XVII century.
Bronze.
Measurements: 5 x 17 x 7 cm.
Hand in patinated bronze from a sculpture of a pensive Bodhisattva of Asian origin. The middle finger bent and pressed with the thumb, together with the two stretched index and middle fingers could be symbolizing a mudra, concretely the Shunya, the mudra of the emptiness, that is associated with the element of the sky or ether. Likewise, it is the hand gesture adopted by a pensive bodhisattva, an iconic representation of a bodhisattva in meditation position, with one leg crossed over the other and one hand resting on the cheek. These sculptures, common in the Buddhist art of Korea and Japan, symbolize the search for enlightenment and compassion for all sentient beings.
