DESCRIPTION
Pair of Japanese Imari vases. Meiji era, ca.1910.
Hand-painted ceramic.
Measurements: 25 x 15 x 15 cm.
Pair of hand-painted and glazed Japanese vases, according to the Imari style. This is distinguished by its white base and the incorporation of floral motifs and other decorative elements in a color palette that includes cobalt blue, red, gold and orange. On the ones we bid for, lobed medallions depict trees in blossom, and floral motifs also decorate the rest of the enameled surface.
The name "Imari" comes from the port city of Imari, from where these pieces were exported abroad. They were characteristic of the Meiji period (1868-1912).
