DESCRIPTION
Pair of vases; France, Empire period, c. 1810.
Hand painted porcelain.
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use.
Measurements: 24 x 15 x 15 cm (x2).
Vases made of hand-painted porcelain. Both have the same typology that follows the model of the Medici cup and are decorated with hand-painted pastoral scenes. They have gilded details and handles in the shape of a satyr's head.
Aesthetically the pieces are reminiscent of Paris Porcelain, also called Old Paris, a name that groups together the production of a series of smaller manufactories established in Paris from the last quarter of the 18th century to the end of the 19th century. The production will be homogeneous in all the factories, with good kaolin paste and golden decorations. The Revolution marked the beginning of the expansion of Paris Porcelain; production increased, with pieces following the stylistic and typological models of Sèvres, important technical improvements were achieved and a new and thriving clientele was supplied: the bourgeoisie.
