DESCRIPTION
Vase; China, Qing dynasty, 19th century.
Patinated bronze.
Measurements: 30 x 34 cm.
Vase made in patinated bronze that presents a balanced silhouette of globular body that narrows towards the neck and opens into a wide flared rim. Of particular note are the dragon-shaped handles in relief, masterfully cast and applied to the main body, a symbol of power and prosperity in Chinese tradition. The smooth surface and the dark finish of the bronze give the object a sober elegance, typical of the technical and aesthetic refinement achieved by the metallurgical workshops during the Qing dynasty. This piece is evidence of both the masterful craftsmanship and the profound symbolism that characterized the artistic production of the period.
