BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Horse; China, Ming dynasty, China, Ming dynasty, 1368-1644.
Partially glazed polychrome terracotta.
Measurements: 24 x 28 x 8 cm.
Horse modeled in polychrome terracotta, glazed in some areas following the Sancai style. This style, whose name literally means "three colors", is based on the use of two glazes or lead glazes, copper oxide green and iron honey color, complemented by the ivory color of the engobe of the base. This type of objects for the grave goods, both figures and vessels, were called "mingqi" ("shiny object").
The Ming dynasty is one of the longest periods in Chinese history, lasting approximately three centuries. After the Yuan period of foreign domination, the Ming period saw the re-establishment of traditional Chinese values. The seventeen emperors of this dynasty reigned in a state of relative peace and prosperity, and belonged to the Han ethnic group (the majority in China), as did the civil service. The economy will be transformed from an agrarian state to a completely mercantile one at the end of the dynasty.
