BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

kosometsuke for export to Japan; China, Ming dynasty, Chongzhen period (1637-1644).
Blue and white glazed porcelain.
Measurements: 3 x 9 x 9 cm.
kosometsuke, made in China during the Ming dynasty, conceived specifically for export to the Japanese market, the work responds to the aesthetic tastes of the cultured circles and the world of chanoyu (tea ceremony), where these porcelains were especially appreciated.
The term kosometsuke, literally "blue under a light-toned cover", defines a type of porcelain marked by a spontaneous line, asymmetrical compositions and an apparent simplicity that embodies the values of wabi-sabi. In contrast to the formal perfection of other imperial porcelains, these pieces stand out for their expressiveness and free pictorial rhythm, qualities that deeply captivated Japanese taste.
From a historical and artistic perspective, kosometsuke occupy a privileged place as border objects between two cultural traditions. Their production in the Chongzhen period, one of the final moments of the Ming dynasty.
