Introduced in 1966 by the house, the Papillon was created by designer Henri Racamier, who at that time drove Louis Vuitton’s international expansion and helped establish the brand as a global benchmark for luxury. Its name means “butterfly” in French, a reference to its delicate, rounded handles that evoke the lightness and shape of this insect’s wings.
