The collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Fornasetti, presented in the Fall-Winter 2021 collection under the creative direction of Nicolas Ghesquière, marked the coming together of two icons of design and craftsmanship. Drawing inspiration from the vast archive of the Milanese studio—which contains over 13,000 drawings created by Piero Fornasetti—Ghesquière reinterpreted some of his most iconic motifs, such as classical architectural facades, Greco-Roman busts, cameos, keys, and the famous face of Lina Cavalieri—applying them to handbags, trunks, garments, and accessories using techniques such as screen printing, embroidery, jacquard, and laser printing. Emblematic Louis Vuitton models, such as the Capucines, Petit Malle, Speedy, Neverfull, OnTheGo, and the historic travel trunks, were transformed into true portable works of art where Fornasetti’s signature graphic illusionism and imagination interact with the exceptional savoir-faire of the French fashion house. The result was one of Louis Vuitton’s most notable artistic collaborations in recent years, highly prized by collectors for its limited production run, technical complexity, and the fusion of Italian artistic heritage and contemporary luxury.
