DESCRIPTION
Pair of Roman earrings; Roman Empire, II-III centuries AD.
In gold.
Measurements: 25 x 20 mm (larger and smaller side).
Pair of amorcillated and hollow earrings, with tubular section and curved profile, with hook and ring clasp system.
Gold earrings were common elements in Roman jewelry, especially in female contexts, where they were a symbol of status and refinement. During the 2nd-3rd centuries A.D., hollow tubular body models became widespread, which allowed for greater lightness without sacrificing visual volume.
The amorcillated finish responds to a frequent typology in Roman goldsmithery, characterized by simple forms but with a strong presence. These pieces combine functionality and ornamental value, integrating into the Roman jewelry tradition that favored the work of gold for its ductility, brightness and durability.
