DESCRIPTION
Seal; Sassanid Empire, 224 - 651 AD.
Chalcedony.
Measurements: 20 x 12 mm (diameter).
Spherical seal with lateral perforation for suspension, decorated with schematic warrior motif carrying shield and spear.
The Sassanid seals were essential elements in the administration and daily life of the late Persian Empire, used to mark documents, containers and goods, guaranteeing authenticity and authority. The side Puncture indicates that many of these seals were worn suspended, facilitating their regular use.
The depiction of warriors, although schematic, reflects the importance of military power and protection in Sassanid iconography. Carved from hard stones such as chalcedony, these seals combined functionality with symbolic value, conveying authority and legitimacy within late Near Eastern material culture.
